A few people along the way had told us, “Oh, you should go and visit a place called Bright in the autumn, it’s just divine”. Well, there’s no question, it is, and we made a special detour to get there.

In fact we didn’t know of this place until we were almost upon it, I think it’s pretty unheard of in European circles. Sydney-siders come down here if they don’t make the jump across to New Zealand. Having taken a wrong turn we ended up here… but look at our little broom broom go.

The town of Bathurst is Australia’s oldest inland settlement, but for a more fun slant, it’s also Australia’s answer to Silverstone. The public can speed round the circuit at a giddying 60kph (there are even speed check Police hiding out to make sure).
